What is the AMC 10?
AMC 10 is a 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice Math exam for high school mathematics organized by the Mathematical Association of America. The contest is open to students in grades 10 and below. The Contest is designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills in students and enhance their analytical thinking capabilities.
What is the syllabus for AMC 10?
The AMC 10 exam covers math problems in algebra, geometry, arithmetic, number theory, geometry, counting, probability, and other secondary school math topics. Trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry are excluded from the syllabus.
What are the two versions of the AMC 10 Exam?
AMC 10 exam has two versions. AMC 10A and AMC 10B. Both exams are held on two different dates. Both versions have 25 questions with the same rules, same time limits, same scoring policies, and administration guidelines. The difficulty level is generally the same and the distribution of topics is evenly done for both exams. It is advisable that the students take both versions.
What is the scoring system for AMC 10?
The maximum score that a participant can receive on this exam is 150 points.
AMC 10/12 punishes you badly for guessing.
Each correct answer is worth 6 points.
Each wrong answer is worth 0 points.
Each unanswered question ( answer left blank) is worth 1.5 points.
AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that lead to USA(J)MO, USAMO, and then ultimately to IMO ( International Mathematical Olympiad). The top 2.5% scorers on the AMC 10 exam are invited to take the AIME exam which is the second-level math competition in the path to IMO.
What are the Age Requirements for AMC 10?
Students can take this exam at any age that they and their parents or mentors believe is fine for them. Students in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age are eligible to take this exam.
What materials can we bring to the exam? are calculators allowed?
For digital administration of the competition, a student may use a laptop or tablet with one tab open to the competition. Otherwise, the only materials that students are allowed to have with them during the competition are writing utensils, blank scratch paper, rulers, and erasers. NO CALCULATORS OR PHONES AND SIMILAR ELECTRONIC DEVICES OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED. No questions require the use of a calculator.
